SimpleJeff
Hi there, Totally new to design programmes as we are trying to move some of the basic designing in house rather than externally. I need to produce a card for a product to hang onto a display in shops. There needs to be a hole for the hook to fit through. Below is the top of my design, the pink area indicates on the card where the hole needs to be. How would I indicate the pink area needs to be a hole when the printer comes to produce the product? I have seen other tutorials for creating a sort of transparent hole that would reveal the background but that isn't what I need. I need to indicate to the printer that the area should be cut away entirely leaving empty air. Thanks!
Dan C
Hi @SimpleJeff, Welcome to the forums 3 hours ago, SimpleJeff said: I have seen other tutorials for creating a sort of transparent hole that would reveal the background but that isn't what I need. I need to indicate to the printer that the area should be cut away entirely leaving empty air. As you've mentioned, you can certainly make this area Transparent, however this will simply show as white, empty space when exported / printed. Usually this will be specific to the print shop that you're using, so I recommend contacting them to see how they require any 'cut area' to be displayed. Usually this is in the form of a 'Spot Colour' assigned to the object/area that needs cutting, but as above this is different for each printers so I wouldn't want to provide the incorrect information. I hope this helps! MikeW
PaulEC
A cautionary tale! – I have heard of a case where someone wanted a window cut out in the front cover of a brochure. They indicated this to the printer by putting a cross and "CUT THIS OUT" in the box they wanted cut out. Guess what – when the brochures were delivered they had a nice box printed on the front with a cross and "CUT THIS OUT" in the middle of it. This was despite telling the "rep" what they wanted and being told this was the way to indicate it. A word to the wise, double check they know exactly what you want before they go ahead and print the job. 😀 Quote Acer XC-895 : Core i5-10400 Hexa-core 2.90 GHz : 32GB RAM : Intel UHD Graphics 630 : Windows 10 Home Affinity Publisher 2 : Affinity Photo 2 : Affinity Designer 2 : (latest release versions) on desktop and iPad

SimpleJeff
Thank all for helping. The white section would be my best bet with an indication to cut these areas to the printer. Thanks again.
