How to add connected new pages

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So I've laid out 5 chapters of a novel, got about 30 chapters to go. Each time I add a chapter, I add 20 new pages or so, using my master A page which consists of 2 connected text frames on the facing pages. When I paste a whole chapter in the first new page, it only fills out the text frames on that spread, and I have to connect the right page of each spread to the left page of the next spread manually until the end of the chapter. How do I get all the new pages connected automatically, so I don't have to do this each time?

I will assume that you mean you have a text file you are pasting a whole chapter... If I am correct then what you should do is make a Single new Page or Spread as needed. Then you can paste the text into the frame. Obviously you have no where near enough room so find the overflow text indicator on the Text Frame it is the red triangle, the red eye indicates whether or not the overflow text will show (as it is here) or not.

Now the fun bit, Shift Click on the little triangle and you will have more pages made and filled with the text.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Also make sure that the text frame on the left side of the Master Page and the text frame on the right side of the Master Page are linked.

Krommenaas may want to keep the chapters as separate text flows.

True, but if one uses a facing-page Master, and does not link the left- and right-side frames in the Master, the text will flow only through the left or right pages, whichever it was pasted into. That is almost never what the user will want :)
