Text On A Curve - Letter Orientation

I am attempting to put text on a curve in AFD but running into a problem. 

In the first image the letters in the word are all vertically oriented.

In the second image done in AFD all the letters are slanted.

I prefer the letter orientation in the first image but it appears AFD is not capable of reproducing this effect.

Am I incorrect in assuming AFD is not capable of reproducing vertical letter orientation with text on a curve?

It would be laborious, but you can still do it.   Here is a very very raggedy preliminary sample.   Use Artistic Text Tool, enter the text on the curve (I used an ellipse), then Convert to Curves.   Open the Curves group, and highlight each character's layer.   Then use the Move Tool to adjust the angle of each letter.   Desperate needs need desperate measures!    By the way, it would be a good idea to first duplicate the layer with the ellipse, because otherwise, when you convert the text to curves, the ellipse disappears into the great beyond so that you cannot check your character positioning relative to the curve.  

I am a writer, not a designer.   Not sure I would ever have the patience to do this.🙄

It may be a raggedy example but it is a doable technique and I'm going to tinker with it.

Do you need this text as vectors? You can do what you want in Photo, but you need to rasterise the text first, then use the Distort  > Equations  filter. If you can live with rasterised text, I can give you details and a macro.

John - Can I live with rasterized text? The answer is an unequivocal, yes. In fact, you might be surprised what I can live with.

@nullpointer, My way of doing it with Equations is as follows:

1. Create a blank document for your text, with either a white or transparent background. 
2. Ensure that your text has space on all sides, sufficient for your curvature.
3. Filter > Distort > Equations
4.     Under Equations, in the y box enter: y+2*(a-0.5)*x*(w-x)/w and click on Return
5. Use the a slider to adjust the degree of curvature. If a<0.5 then it curves down; if a>0.5 it curves up.
6. Click on Apply.

The maximum rise or fall of the curve is equal to one quarter of the document width (not the text width). If you want more, then you need to change the 2 in the formula to something bigger, but make sure that you have enough room in your document.

Although the letters are raised or lowered vertically, the are all distorted horizontally by the same amount.

The document is rasterised as soon as you enter Filter > Distort .

I have provided  a macro, though this one is fairly simple. The macro will not perform the first two steps, but only the last four.

This is not possible at Affinity Photo for the iPad? I’ve search all the filters but there is no Distort?

Hi I just tried downloading this macro and affinityphoto on iPad does not recognize this file, is this a bug?

You are trying to "Import Macros" which requires a .afmacros file. This is a different format file which can contain multiple macros.  @John Rostron provided the other format, .afmacro, which only holds a single macro. If I remember correctly, iPad users cannot use that kind of file.

Hi all.

does anyone else have this problem.
make a circle, convert it to curves, use artist text, add to curve. get reversed text opposite from where you clicked which doesn't align with any part on the curve.
like below... now this is exceedingly irritating to say the least. and to be honest I've been trying to get this sorted for the last 2 years, still with no luck.
does anyone have any ideas as to any settings i could try, or anything else. I'm at the end of my tether, and will try anything at this stage.

When adding Artistic Text to a curve, try clicking slightly ‘above’ the curve or clicking slightly ‘below’ the curve and see if there is a difference.
If that doesn’t make a difference, try clicking the Reverse Text Path button in the Context Toolbar while your ‘Curve Text Path’ layer is selected.
If that doesn’t make a difference, try dragging the green and orange handles around.

so it seems to have worked.
uninstalling and re installing seems to have worked, just like turning it on and off again.
i'll let everyone know if it doesnt.
