If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry. This beta is significantly different from the 1.8.4 version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous / future versions of Affinity Photo. Furthermore, massive behind the scenes work has been done to enable GPU acceleration for the Windows version of Affinity Photo in 1.9. In theory this should have no consequences for macOS / iOS users - but it’s likely that a couple of things will have become broken along the way. We are giving ourselves a longer beta period with 1.9 in order to find and fix those things. This also means that the full complement of new features is not available yet in this 1.9 beta - more will be added over the coming weeks. Thanks again for your continued support! Affinity Photo Team Changes Since 1.9.0.195 - Text on a path is now available in Photo. - Assistant options are now available from preferences (so there is no need to open a document to access them). - More filters now work on masks / adjustments / spare channels (Add Noise, Perlin Noise, etc.). - Improved experience when editing a spare channel (view artefacts, histogram and navigator). - Setting a blend mode on a sub-brush will now work properly - paving the way for import of PSD dual-brushes in a future build. - Fixed issues when attempting to add layers to a spare channel (!). Changes Since 1.9.0 - The “Serif Labs” RAW engine is now available on iPad. - Added external display support for iPad (in the navigator panel, once the external display is connected). - You can now single tap a spare channel in the Channels panel to edit it like a layer. - A benchmarking tool has been added in the preferences dialog. - Blend modes now work on “alpha only” layers (masks, adjustments, live filters, etc.). - Added a new “Divide” blend mode. - Added “Create from centre” for the elliptical marquee tool. - Allowed snapping to the bounds of the pixel selection. - Added ability to create brushes from the current pixel selection with one click. Paul Mudditt Posted September 19, 2020 Share Posted September 19, 2020 Wow you didn’t mention this ! Nice !EDIT: I had a quick play, I messed a standard brush up deliberately. The toggle switch only has an effect if you close then open the beta, when you return to the settings field it automatically turns itself off again as an acknowledgement that the action has been performed. Very neat! As an ex software guy I can only imagine the internal discussion regarding what to do with imported brushes 😀. I think you made the right choice though to remove all imported brushes as it might be one of them causing a problem. People just have to remember to store their brushes in a folder in case there is a need to re-import after performing a reset brushes operation. RobLW Posted September 20, 2020 Share Posted September 20, 2020 Hello, are you going to fix 1) When in affinity photo and you go to import from apple Photo, it only shows you albums. But it completely ignores the fact that I’ve organised all my albums into folders to make it organised, and doesn’t drive me insane to navigate and find my photos. Please make Affinity Photo for iPad RESPECT and use these folders. 2) When viewing photos in Apple Photo, there is no option to Share To affinity Photo. Basically there is absolutely no decent DAM on iPad what so ever. Zero, none. And so the closest thing I have is to use Apple Photo. From there you should be able to just share the raw file from Apple Photo straight into Affinity Photo, which you then save on to your drive/cloud. These are two very basic needs and should be there from day one. What would be a real winner, is to develop a half-decent DAM (independent of Affinity Photo) which also supports viewing folders(and subfolders) of photos even on external hard drives.
