Staff Andy Somerfield Posted September 14, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 14, 2020 Status: Beta Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo for iPad From App Store App Store: Not submitted Download link: Download Hello, We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first build of Affinity Photo 1.9.0 for iPad. If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry. This beta is significantly different from the 1.8.4 version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous / future versions of Affinity Photo. Furthermore, massive behind the scenes work has been done to enable GPU acceleration for the Windows version of Affinity Photo in 1.9. In theory this should have no consequences for macOS / iOS users - but it’s likely that a couple of things will have become broken along the way. We are giving ourselves a longer beta period with 1.9 in order to find and fix those things. This also means that the full complement of new features is not available yet in this 1.9 beta - more will be added over the coming weeks. Thanks again for your continued support! Affinity Photo Team Changes Since 1.9.0 - The “Serif Labs” RAW engine is now available on iPad. - Added external display support for iPad (in the navigator panel, once the external display is connected). - You can now single tap a spare channel in the Channels panel to edit it like a layer. - A benchmarking tool has been added in the preferences dialog. - Blend modes now work on “alpha only” layers (masks, adjustments, live filters, etc.). - Added a new “Divide” blend mode. - Added “Create from centre” for the elliptical marquee tool. - Allowed snapping to the bounds of the pixel selection. - Added ability to create brushes from the current pixel selection with one click. Artsketch
Is the blob bug fixed? As expected it’s not. This app is a joke, incompetent development. AlainP

DM1
Play nice folks. 🤭 The brush (Blob) issue remains but this is predominantly a Photo editing app. Hopefully it can be improved before beta is finished. I’ve been editing a few raw files using both engines and then editing in Photo persona. Frequency splitting, selective blurring /smoothing, inpainting etc and no lag or bugs to date. Hopefully newer model iPads will work just as well. Andy Somerfield 1 M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Staff Andy Somerfield Posted September 14, 2020 Author Staff Share Posted September 14, 2020 Artsketch, As I said in the release notes, this beta has started early in order to maximise time spent testing the new GPU abstraction. More features will be added before 1.9 ships, and many more bugs will be fixed (we haven't really started fixing historical bugs for this release yet). Andy. Arachnida
I can confirm the pencil issues on an iPad Pro with the latest public beta of iOS14. Fuji compressed RAW files from X-T30 can now be opened, great news! Thanks for adding compressed RAW support! Andy Somerfield

Arachnida
As far as I understand before this beta 1.9 they used the Apple RAW engine, now they use their own. Apple’s engine does not support compressed RAW, from 1.9 on Affinity will support this file format. Boldlinedesign
Staff MEB Posted September 14, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 14, 2020 Hi @konstantnnn, Tap the Document menu, select Assistant and change the RAW Engine dropdown (left column on bottom) to Serif Labs to use our engine instead of Apple (Core Image RAW) provided by Apple/iOS. Apparently I was wrong about the compressed RAW being supported by the new Serif Labs RAW Engine. My settings were still on Apple's engine and I was able to open the compressed RAW files with the 1.9 beta, same picture with the public release of AP gives an error. So it seems to have nothing to do with the engine type itself, the beta now supports compressed RAW? I thought I read somewhere on the forum that Apple didn't support this type of files. (OT: These compressed files do open with the public release of the WIN version of AP.)

Staff MEB Posted September 15, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 15, 2020 Hi @Arachnida, Can you please create a new thread in the Photo Beta for iPad section with a sample compressed RAW that fails to open on iPad (but opens fine on Windows) please?
