Mike Clelland
I am starting a book project, it'll be a 6x9 print-on-demand. The interior is B&W only, and the cover is a separate document. Nothing overly fancy. I have the manuscript in WORD for mac. There are images and footnotes in the document, but NO images go beyond the edge of the page. The book is 400 pages long. QUESTION: Is there a way to import the entire document into Affinity Publisher? I created a beautiful print book using WORD last year, and it was a hassle. I am using Affinity Publisher for the first time. I am using a Mac Also - I feel like I saw some video tutorial online that showed how to do it, but I can't find it now (did I dream it?). Fixx
1 hour ago, Mike Clelland said: QUESTION: Is there a way to import the entire document into Affinity Publisher? You have to import text and images separately. Design your document including styles, Import text first from docx, place it to first page as you like (you can place it as plain text box or use master text box), shift click link arrow to add necessary pages and to run all text to pages. Set text styles right (I usually make all body and go through the pages changing style to headlines and first paras as needed; or you can adjust imported word styles (if you have used styles in Word wisely). Import images from image files. Footnotes must be created manually.
Mike Clelland
I did use the text styles in word very wisely. I am reviewing a set of tutorials, and the learning curve is pretty steep. I think I can figure out 90% from a set of tutorials I purchased. They are quite good for someone wha has never used this application. The word doc is VERY close to being ready for publication, but to truly make it look like a professional book is terribly time consuming (and frustrating). There are a lot of "end runs" to solve some simple stuff, and these are often tricky to solve. I am certain I can get a professional looking book with Affinity Publisher — but I am hoping for an easy way to import the hard work I've already done in WORD. Mike Clelland
I did a quick test with a few pages of text. The styles imported beautifully! Whew!
PeterLax
Hi Mike, I’d recommend Elaine Giles’s training - she does exactly this from 57 mins in this video: https://youtu.be/98cWyoStN_Q She also does free live training every Friday night on YouTube and frequently goes through the whole affinity suite for projects. Good luck! Pete
