iPad Designer: smart selection doesn’t respect color

Recommended Posts

Goal: create accurate selection of area between green lines, going up to, but not beyond, the green lines

Problem: Smart selection tool doesn’t respect color — goes beyond the green lines rathere than selecting up to them.

Question: Is there a way to achieve the goal? Screen capture attached. iPad Designer, Pixel persona.

thank you!

Smart Selection works on the layer you have selected, if the item isn’t on that layer then the edge can’t be detected. One way is to use merge curves so that they are on the same layer. You could also use merge visible to create a flattened pixel layer to make the selection on.

But my two green lines are on the same layer..that’s partly what’s so puzzling to me about the result I screencaptured.

I created a file with several artboards and added some pixel layer with fill on one layer and brush strokes on another. I’m not seeing that behaviour. Even with a grainy acrylic it has no issues selecting the brush strokes.

thank you for your kind help!

As is usual, when an Apple device starts to misbehave try closing all apps then rebooting it or perform a forced restart.

that really did seem to help greatly!

I didn't think of iPad as a device requiring such measures but I guess any computer devices' brain can get clogged with hairballs..
