Nessx
Somehow I'd expect it to be self-evidently to be able to add a border around a mask or selection. However this seems to be a little tricky in AF. Is there any way at all? Fx-tool doesn't affect mask or selection. By the way: By selection I mean a real complicated one: for instance around a person. Edit: for sure I could cut the person loose and add an edge by clicking on fx, but I want to apply a color filter on the person and on the edge separately, that's why I need to distinguish. GarryP
I think what you want is menu “Select → Outline...”. You can then use the settings to create an outline selection based on your original selection, see attached image. If that’s not what you want then a few more details might be needed. Nessx
Yea, we're on the right track. Maybe I miss a step, but but by select -> outline I can just add the size of the selection without adding a border with thickness and color-specification? But that's what I really want. I could apply a mask layer, but they are not made for creating a border around them. Apparently. So what road to go?
Staff MEB Posted September 8, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 8, 2020 Hi Nessx, With the selection created, use the command Select > Outline... to generate an outline from the selection shape with the size you want, then create a new layer and fill that selection with the colour you want. You can also do it through the FX method, duplicating the person cutout, applying the Outline FX to the duplicated cutout and setting its Fill Opacity (in the Outline effects dialog on the bottom right to 0%) to hide the person pixels and keep just the outline effect as a separate layer. Xzenor
Another way is using Layer Effects->outline. Take note not to apply it on the mask but on the actual pixel- or image-layer Nessx 1 Quote Windows 10 Pro Intel Core i7-4770 3.40Ghz 16 GB RAM Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 Samsung EVO 850 SSD
Staff MEB Posted September 8, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 8, 2020 Hi Xzenor, @Nessx wants the outline effect separated from the pixel data (so in a an independent layer to further process the pixel layer and outline independently). 1 hour ago, Nessx said: Edit: for sure I could cut the person loose and add an edge by clicking on fx, but I want to apply a color filter on the person and on the edge separately, that's why I need to distinguish.
