Kevin Maguire
I'm trying to make a tutorial video and got stopped when I tried to subtract rectangles from a circle. I'm making the vintage sun you see on a lot of t-shirts. I've already made the video for Deisgner and didn't have any issues. This issue does pop up in Designer sometimes, but I've always been able to work around it. Not so in photo. So I make my rectangles and line them up. Then I subtract them and the edges of the circle disappear too. I made a short video to show what I mean:
firstdefence
Select the rectangles and use Layer > Geometry > Merge Curves and then subtract from the circle. Thanks. I tried it and got the same result as when I used "add." Sides still come up missing.
firstdefence
Why are you using Add and not Subtract? Make sure the sun is below the merged rectangles. Kevin Maguire
I added all the rectangles together, then subtracted from the circle. It had the same effect as using the merge.
firstdefence
Got ya. You appear to have a texture or mask as a child as well? Ive made a sun the same as you Saved with history so you can jog back and forth in the history panel. retro sun.afphoto Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... Kevin Maguire
It's a mask with a brush applied. No textures.

walt.farrell
Possibly you could supply your .afphoto file, Kevin? There may be something you've done that isn't obvious from your video that would explain the problem. lepr
Booleans were wrecked by the 1.8 update. Workaround: hold down opt/alt key when performing the Subtract so that a Compound is created, and then optionally apply Convert To Curves to get a destructive result. walt.farrell
Kevin Maguire
Just now, anon2 said: Booleans were wrecked by the 1.8 update. Thanks! lepr
