Text tool issue in version 1.8.4

After I've created an infographics on a artboard with different objects alongside texts, shapes, etc, at some point, when I try to move/click on an image that is not very far from a text box, it stops letting me to select it, even when I am using the move tool. It keeps selecting the text when all I am doing is clicking over the images around it using the move tool, not the text tool. I'd need to go to the layers panel to be able to move it. I noticed that the issue is with the text boxes because whenever I uncheck the text box(es) in the layers panel, I was able to select the images instantly. Right now, in my last document, it started to happen after I created the 8th and 9th text boxes, which are keeping me from being able to move the majority of the images on the artboard. This doesn't happen with 1.8.3 version. I even reinstalled Designer (1.8.4), and it is still happening. Can you help?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @LoM.

Can you give us a screenshot of your workspace, showing the text frame and the object you're trying to move (with the text frame selected, please) and also showing the Layers panel?

Even better, if you could provide the .afdesign document (or enough of it to illustrate the problem) we perhaps play with it ourselves to try to figure out what's happening.

Hi, thanks for responding. I removed the two text boxes that were giving me the issue and it works now so far. In fact, the problem is the current version, because in my other laptop with 1.8.3 I tried opening the same file, and it worked perfectly.

Hi LoM,

There is a known issue that can cause text frames to be selected even when outside of their bounding box when the frame uses Strokes and Small Caps or differing tracking values. It sounds like might be this that you've bumped into, as it was not an issue in 1.8.3. Development are aware of this and it should be fixed in the next version.

Hi LoM,

Tracking refers to the spacing between characters in a word. So if you adjust the tracking with the text cursor placed inside a word you can make the spacing between each letter greater or smaller. See below for more information:
https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Text/trackingKerning.html?title=Tracking and kerning

Note that whilst the link is for Publisher's help it is still appropriate to Designer in this context.
