Can not load LUTS IN AFFINITY PHOTO IPAD

Apparently a bug for some users. A workaround for now is to rename file type to .cub Which you can do on iPad using Documents (by Readdle). Copy lut to Documents and rename the navigate from affinity photo to documents and lut should now appear and load.

Alternatively if you have Fresco or other adobe app loaded, try removing it/them

Is it going to be fixed in next update ?

I’m not affiliated with Serif (just own the app and an ipad🙂). All I know is it has been logged as a bug. No telling what order bugs are fixed. Even more confusing,  I don’t have this issue with lut loading though many do, so maybe you have another app that has claimed ownership of lut file type in iOS. Hence my comment re Fresco etc.

Hi both,

I managed to replicate it here without Fresco, so no point in trying to delete other apps. The issue is with our developers.

Gabe, fwiw it may be hardware specific? as I have no problem accessing.cube LUTs using latest release of AP.

No idea, honestly. It seems to be very random. I've got the same iPad model as you (Pro 10.5) and I have the issue. :( The only difference is the internal storage (mine is a 64GB, and not a 512) but that should not make any difference.

There is a known bug in last  affecting some users (not all). A workaround as discussed earlier in this thread is to rename  .cube to. .cub    Seems silly but apparently works.

If you use PC you can use a batch convert command from .cube to .cub (you need some DOS command skills to do this) https://www.c3scripts.com/tutorials/msdos/commands.html

Open CMD on you PC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cmd.exe)
Click Startbutton and type CMD and press enter, the command prompt opens. (a small black window)

Go to the folder, using dos commands, where the .cube is located (I recommend you copy the .cube folder you use)
When you are in the right folder type
for /R %x in (*.cube) do ren "%x" *.cub (this will change the filename extension of all .cube files to .cub in that folder)

For example
C:\user\me\documents\luts>for /R %x in (*.cube) do ren "%x" *.cub

Basic DOS
type "d:", "e:" to change drive
type "cd foldernamn" to open folder
type "cd.." to go back to previous folder

As a pc user with an ipad you can also use the new PowerToys feature but you're limited to 20 at a time. Or you can follow @azek99 advice.

To make it easier open the file explorer and go to the file with the .cube files you need to change.

  • On the address bar (Not the search bar with the little magnifying glass) type CMD.
  • When command prompt opens double check that the path you have matches the file address path.
  • Enter the following command ren *.cube *.cub and press enter
  • The files will all change the file extension, but not the file name.
