Laptop Spec to run Affinity

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Any suggestions for a lightweight laptop that will run Affinity Photo and maybe LR don't really need it for anything else just the usual internet surfing, nothing to fancy as got a good PC but want something I can use to edit on holiday. Ideally something light and thin, will i5, 8gb ram and SSD be ok ?

What's the equivalent AMD Ryzen to the i5 ? as I'm using Ryzen in my PC.

Need's to be Windows as that's the only Affinity licence I have and I have a Macbook Pro but it's old and screen has gone in the bottom right corner, it's a 2013 or 2015 model so not worth fixing.

Thanks.

Only thing I would suggest is don't get too small a screen. This thing is 14 ½" diagonal, I wouldn't go smaller. You can see the spec in the signature below, I would imagine that i5, 8gb ram and SSD would be ok unless you're running massive panoramas or focus stacks

Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe
Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10

If I would do the config and have a limited budget, I would first aim for more RAM (16GB is good, 32GB excellent) before upgrading the processor.

A Mac would have the advantage that Affinity apps make full use of the Metal graphic engine build into MacOS. The forum is full of threads about compatibility or driver issues with Windows graphic cards. Compared to the price tag of a Mac, buying another Affinity license is not really an issue.
