What settings do you have under Preferences: Performance a screenshot would be the best option.

I can also report that the latest beta has some performance issues. It is hard to pinpoint. I have an identical spec PC to @shadstarn  When I add a live denoise and one or two other adjustment layers I sometimes (but not always) end up with the fans spinning up and a very slow response. I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed, but this sounds like a CPU issue. The previous release build was fine for this workflow.  I had the good intentions of reporting a bug but I found it impossible to create a file that guaranteed it being reproduced. I should say that my workflow is normally Panasonic Lumix Raw (*.RW2) conversion, denoise and usually curves adjustments with occasional sharpening outside of the RAW development. I often do a 1:1 and also a smaller export to JPG as well.
