John Hod
For some reason I seem to no longer be able to us my inpainting tool brush. The icon is still there, but when I select it I get cross hairs instead of a brush. Any ideas for resolving it would be gratefully received. GarryP
If you just have crosshairs after selecting the brush then the size of the brush is probably too small. Try resizing it, either via the Context Toolbar or the “[“ and “]” keys. John Hod
John Hod
Thanks. I could have sworn I'd tried that.
GarryP
You're welcome. Sometimes you need to press "]" quite a lot until the brush shows.
darlenekcarter
I have the same reason only my brush is large and I see the circle and when I try to use it nothing changes on the picture. all my other tools work
GarryP
Welcome to the forums @darlenekcarter Can you give us a full-screen screen grab which includes your Layers Panel, with the layer you are trying to use the brush on selected, while you are using the brush (so we can see the Context Toolbar options for the brush)? redfordb
I also have been using the inpainting brush for a while but it just stopped working, when you brush over something nothing changes although it looks like it is doing something, if I repeat 15 - 16 time each time it changes a tiny amount - 1.8.4 recently upgraded

Just like any other brush, the Opacity and Flow values in the Context Toolbar are important. Have you checked yours? Also, it is a brush, and makes use of the brush you last selected in the Brushes panel. Perhaps you're not using an appropriate brush for inpainting? Hi Walt, I have just started learning Afinity Photo so its possible I have changed something. is there a easy way to set ab appropriate brush for inpainting? I think flow and other opacity values look the same as before but as a newbie every day is a school day.

One of the Basic Round brushes is probably best. Make sure the Opacity and Flow are set to 100% in the Context Toolbar. And make sure you have the right layer selected to be painting on, and that it shows as a (Pixel) layer in the Layers panel. Give us some screenshots of your workspace while you'rre trying to inpaint, including the Layers panel, if those suggestions don't work.
