Zac Bir
This is a minimal reproduction of an issue I'm seeing in another document. I'm using Google's Roboto Slab font in its Black weight. When I save as PDF via the Print dialog, the Black weight is preserved, but when I export PDF (with font and subset font embedding enabled), it reverts to Regular weight. Zac Bir
Seems to work okay if I export with text as curves, but that obviously alters the ability to select text in the resulting PDF.
walt.farrell
How are you viewing the PDF file? If you're viewing it by reloading it into Publisher, you might need to embed all fonts, not a subset. Zac Bir
Viewing in macOS Preview, but the same discrepancy shows in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Staff MEB Posted August 18, 2020 Staff Share Posted August 18, 2020 Hi Zac Bir, Can you zip and attach the fonts you are using please? Zac Bir
Aha, that gives me an idea. I installed the Variable Weight version of the TTF from this download: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Roboto+Slab?query=Roboto+Slab I will try again installing the individual weights. Boom, that did it. Results are now as expected. Thanks for the nudge!

It worked when printed to PDF. Was it working because print to PDF uses the system printing workflow? In any case, glad for the pointer. tsjmc
I had the same issue yesterday, albeit with a different variable font. Didn't realise that Publisher didn't support variable fonts – so thanks for posting this!
