ESPR
I have a lot of experience with Inkscape, so not new to vectordesign. Here im trying to extend one of the squares of my rectangular star. I have the extensionobject (red) ready, but now i cant find for the life of me, a way to snap the nodes to the original black object. In fact i spent quite a long time looking for alternatives, and the only solution seems to be rotating the star by 72° and then align the square to the bottom. I also noticed there doesnt seem to be a way to snap guides to nodes. What would be the best way to do this in AD ?

ESPR
I just found out: you can also do this with the 'Perform Construction Snapping' option turned on, and then just drag out two nodes at an angle by holding down Shift. Nice ! Its kind of unintuitive to have these options seperate form the basic snapping dialogue. I watched the videotutorial on this feature recently, but somehow only remembered that it can be used with the Pen Tool.
