How to disable font smoothing for pixel fonts

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I must say that I'm coming to love Affinity software!

I'm trying to figure out how I can disable font smoothing when using a tff format pixel font. I've tried following instruction below (adjusting the coverage map), which does remove the anti-aliasing but the font becomes mangled. Is this supported for this in Affinity Photo?

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/57282-how-to-turn-off-anti-aliasing-for-text/

Thanks

Jim

The grade of "mangled" varies inside APh with the zoom level, it doesn't occur in an exported jpg for instance
top texts: adjusted curve – bottom: default curve

I am not sure what kinds of fonts you mean, but coverage map adjustment does turn off antialiasing for outline fonts. The degree of "mangledness" is dependent on the output resolution but if it is high enough, aliasing (hard edges) can be seen only when zooming in. Note too that exporting may affect the way text is rendered so even if the text has a coverage map that turns off or on antialiasing, export settings can cause an opposite effect (e.g. JPG compression may cause artifacts that blur a sharp edge, and PNG export with limited colors can turn off antialiasing).
