Photo Crashes after 1.8.4 update

Recommended Posts

Just updated to Photo 1.8.4 yesterday (7th Aug) through the Apple Store, Photo opens up with a reduced screen size and no tools showing at all. Photo crashes instantly when trying to load any new documents or new templates. I also have Designer and Publisher. Designer has also just updated to 1.8.4 and works okay. Anybody else having these problems?

Numerous crash reports have been sent to Apple.

Using 2019 i7 mac mini with 16GB Ram and LG 32inch 4K monitor, had absolutely no problems with Photo before updating to 1.8.4.

Yup same here. Here’s my reply on a post in the iPad section

“Same for me. I thought it was because I was working on an 8000x8000 file, even though I usually work with only a slightly smaller res. Spent an hour working on a project for a client that’s due next week. The app crashed and it hadn’t auto saved any of my work. Went on my Mac and tried to work in Affinity there only for the app to crash and reset my whole system. First time in 20 years that’s happened to me on a Mac. Used to happen on Win XP all the time - the dreaded blue screen of death. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I haven’t had any work due to the lockdown and I need to get paid for this job. I’m panicking. I’m going to do what I can in Designer, but reluctant to use any Affinity products until they tell us how and when they’re going to fix it....“
