lukramon
I asked this myself a lot and still wonder if it's possible to snap the 'corner tool' to a grid for example. If it's not possible yet, this would be an awesome improvement. Thanks already, Luk Ramon
Staff MEB Posted August 5, 2020 Staff Share Posted August 5, 2020 Hi lukramon, Welcome to Affinity Forums The Corner Tool only acts on sharp and cusp nodes of objects it doesn't draw anything, so you have to draw the object first than use the Corner Tool on the object - it doesn't work directly with the grid. lukramon
Yes, I know, that's not what I mean. Thanks for the reply tho. I'm new to this forum but have quite some experience with your apps, they're awesome btw ;-D. So, you can change the corner manually, a red circle appears and also the centre of the circle. My question is if you can snap that centre(little red circle) to a grid. Thanks again! Edited August 5, 2020 by lukramon
Staff MEB Posted August 5, 2020 Staff Share Posted August 5, 2020 Sorry, i misunderstood you. No, not possible but i see how this can be useful. I will pass your feedback to the dev team. I don't need this kind of snapping myself but if it is implemented I guess it should affect all these red adjustment circles: Quote "The user interface is supposed to work for me - I am not supposed to work for the user interface." Alfred
I’m on my iPad right now, but I think the Context toolbar controls for the Corner Tool are the same as in the desktop version of AD. One of the options is ‘Ignore Snapping’, which seems superfluous if there’s no snapping behaviour to override! Staff MEB Posted August 5, 2020 Staff Share Posted August 5, 2020 @Jowday These adjustments are related to object's geometry/parameters and most of the time will not match any grid settings. Try with a different parametric shape and you will see what i mean unless you are referring just to the rounded rectangle tool specifically. lukramon
@Jowday Well, that's right, but you can change the snap settings. Even tho I meant the centre of the circle, not necessarily when it's implemented.

That only applies when you switch to the Node Tool temporarily (pressing and hold command + alt to ignore snapping) to move a corner node around, not to the Corner Tool specifically. Staff MEB Posted August 5, 2020 Staff Share Posted August 5, 2020 Hi PixelPest,Jowday comment is about parametric shapes (rounded rectangle tool in the screenshot/specifficaly), not the Corner tool. Although you can use the input field to set a value matching the grid, the suggestion to make it snap to the grid is useful to speed up the process/work visually without moving to the context toolbar to insert values. PixelPest
Ah - I see. But why these settings are just percental and not metric or imperial or other values escapes me as I´m constantly need this for "technically" drawing purposes.
Staff MEB Posted August 5, 2020 Staff Share Posted August 5, 2020 Yeah, that's a good suggestion as well. I guess it's because Designer is currently more geared towards graphic/UI/web design and illustration rather than technical drawing/CAD. We also don't have dimensioning tools and similar. Maybe later who knows. I know there's a few users using it for those purposes. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
PixelPest
I don´t take AD as a CAD suite with a missing "C" - but even for graphic/UI/web design you need at least px as a size that matters in rounded corners. Just saying. 😉 sfriedberg and lepr
