Color Panel

Color and swatches panels  (Affinity Photo) show "RGB" setting but offer C, M, and Y sliders or substitute CMY colors (e.g. yellow for red).  How do I set RGB sliders in the panel and the swatches panel

I have tried this but it doesn't seem to work.  Note the enclosed shot of this panel with the "RGB" chosen in the pop-down and the colors showing.

What is the problem?
The sliders display the resulting color when the slider is moved, not the intensity of the corresponding color component.

I think the OP may be questioning why the RGB colour sliders appear to show CMY colours when the RGB sliders are at maximum as shown in his screenshot

Because

Note that for RGB, all sliders are at maximum, while for CMYK, they are at minimum.
If you want to compare them, you have to keep the RGB to a minimum - then they probably have the expected look.

Personally, I'm guessing that problem is other colors appear on the red slider. The OP apparently expected that there would always be only shades of red, as is the case with the sliders set to minimum.

I think you may well be right, @Pšenda! The sliders in that screenshot are labelled R, G, and B, but they show tints of C, M, and Y, respectively.

Exactly!  I don't want to get involved in CMYK subtracting colors or whatever.  I just want to be able to choose from the standard RGB colors, red, green, and blue, and their combinations.

I admit that it's a bit confusing at first when the colors of the sliders change when you set them, but this makes it much easier to set the desired color - because the search result is always displayed directly on the sliders. If the sliders were not dynamic and still only show the color of the color component (see example from carl123), then the user would have to know the exact rules of color mixing - for example, if I want yellow, I have to give red and green.

Despite the fact, that non-dynamic sliders are completely useless - they just copy the numeric value to the right.

And I've always been able to use these colors as the primary ones, red, green, and blue.  and I've been using photo for at least a year.  All of a sudden these panels, colour and swatches, seem to be messed up.  Please help me to what I've used in the past!  And I've used the sliders many times.

For instance, when I move the G and B sliders to 0 and the R slider to 255, should I not be able to employ a red colour, not some yellow or cyan one?

Use PNG-24, not GIF, for your screenshots. Then you won’t get the terrible banding that we see in this example.

I'm sorry, but it seems to be as it appears on the screen and I'm not sure what banding you refer to

Is that what you mean? It works exactly as expected for me.

Maybe there is a problem in setting the brushes or layers (Blend mode, Adjustments, Filter). Provide a Screenshot of the entire desktop.
