I have like five layers in my document. I want to convert only one of the layers into grayscale. When I try to add a black and white adjustment, the colors go all weird—it's not going to normal grayscale. Also, it applies the adjustment to the layer and all other layers underneath it! But I'd only like to apply it to a single layer.

Thanks!

You need to nest the adjustment in the layer that you want it to affect. If you don’t like the result you get with a B&W adjustment, try an HSL adjustment instead (dialling the saturation all the way down to remove the colour).

If you are in Publisher and the layer is an image layer:

You can simply activate the "K Only" button in the Context Toolbar. It reduces the colors to grayscale look, it may vary in its work depending of the resources color space, but doesn't change the color space of the resource. To alter the color space of a placed resource to grayscale you can edit the resource within APub by clicking the "Edit Image" button and set its document color space separately.

Awesome, thanks a lot! These are both really helpful suggestions and solved my issue.

Thanks for the information! I really appreciate it. I was actually in Photo and the other person's comment solved it. Thanks for your suggestions though, maybe it'll help someone else :). Wish this forum had different sections for the different apps, haha.

Wish a topic would mention the app with its question, haha 😉
You simply need to type their abbreviations: AD - AP - APub

Alternatively, for greater clarity (since some users type ‘AP’ when they mean Affinity Publisher): AD - APh - APub
