Panchdara
Hi. I have imported (placed) a .PNG file. I then try and change the opacity - nothing happens. I then change the fill colour and the opacity can now be changed. Am I missing something?? Win 10, AD 1.8.4.681 Thanks Legs.afdesign Edited July 27, 2020 by Panchdara Solved/explained
walt.farrell
I'm not sure what might be wrong on your end, @Panchdara. I can change the opacity of that (Image) layer quite easily using the Layers panel: -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.
Panchdara
Many, many thanks Mr Walt. I am beginning to see the light (pun intended?) Attached is where I think I went wrong. PEBCAK error? walt.farrell and SPaceBar 1
walt.farrell
For your confusion: You need to look at the Opacity setting in context. The setting in the Layers panel is for adjusting the opacity of the layer (what you want to do). The setting in the Swatches panel adjusts the opacity of the color you are using for a Fill or for painting. SPaceBar
HI @Panchdara the pun made me chuckle. As @walt.farrell said, it's the opacity on the layers panel that you need in this instance.
Panchdara
Thanks so much guys. I sorta see where I went astray. I'm still confused that I could change the fill of the imported/placed png and then alter that opacity... and the fill I used only affected those parts of the png that had fills/gradients. No complaining, just a little daunted by the flexibility of AD. Very pleased I (almost) sorted my thought process and grateful for your patience. Very best SPaceBar
