Objects in sublayers disappear

Recommended Posts

If you're dragging layers below other layers you may be dropping them in the wrong place. Make sure you drop them to the right of the parent's thumbnail, not on the thumbnail.

Thanks for that, it looks like you're Clipping one object with another. When you do this, you'll only be able to see the parts of the object that overlap with the 'parent' object.

Can you please let me know what you're hoping to achieve by clipping one object to the other in the layers panel?

Please Note: I am now out of the office until Tuesday 2nd April on annual leave.

Thanks for confirming that, please see the below video regarding Layers in Designer, as you can create empty 'Layer' entries that can have multiple curves organised within it.

Do you have a text version of the video?

In words,

1. Select first layer, swipe second layer so that both layers are marked as selected

2. Press the group button

If your group layer does not say “group” then it isn’t a group !

Thanks for this - I should clarify though that I have many years of experience with Illustrator so most of these ideas are pretty clear. What I’m missing is the mechanics of doing things. Like, in this case, nowhere is it said that if the parent layer isn’t empty it will automatically clip!

Anyway like I said bravo on a great piece of work. Now if only the UI wasn’t so dark....

Designer isn't Illustrator as Photo isn't Photoshop, the workflow is different. It's best to forget everything you know about Illustrator or Photoshop or much frustration will result. A parent layer can be a group which is what you want,  but it can also be a a clipping layer and it can also be a masking layer, all are different parent child relationships in Designer.
