Sheared gradients rasterized upon export - can Designer convert to regular gradient

Recommended Posts

Goal: Pure vector output

Scenario: A lot of objects with a regular gradient copy-pasted and individually distorted to simulate perspective (...) with the shear 'tool'.

Issue: All gradients in distorted objects are transformed into a trapezoid gradient and they are all rasterized upon export to PDF/SVG. No go.

Is this a bug or a non-implemented feature? If SVG/PDF does not support this can the gradient be converted into a regular gradient? In this example I could quickly myself:

But more important - is this type of gradient not supported by PDF/SVG - and how does other programs handle sheared gradients and keep them as vector.

I now consider this a bug:

By design! 🥶

So a feature request it is:

  • "The user interface is supposed to work for me - I am not supposed to work for the user interface."

This is nuts.
Just noticed a similar issue while exploring some experimental boundaries based on real life CMYK+spot print scenarios.

ADe vector objects, CMYK, some transparency, 1 spot color set to overprint:
transpdfexp19.afdesign
PDF/X-3 export thereof, i.e. "industry standard":
transpdfexp19.afdesign.pdf

Exactly the same vector objects simply copied from ADe and pasted into AI CS5:
transpdfexp19.ai
And the PDF/X-3 export thereof:
transpdfexp19.ai.pdf

I'm depressed.
