jmillz
I am looking for a way to edit the mask beyond the ability to modify the original paint areas. Basically I would like to be able to apply a level or curves adjustment to the mask. mmaaxx
Staff MEB Posted July 15, 2020 Staff Share Posted July 15, 2020 Hi jmillz, Welcome to Affinity Forums After creating the mask, create a Levels or Curves adjustment, drag it over the mask thumbnail to nest it to the mask, change the channel in the Curves or Levels adjustment to Alpha then adjust as required. That never occurred to me. I even searched the docs and couldn't find info on how to apply adjustments to a mask. QUESTION: Just curious, from a UX perspective, why it's even necessary to choose the alpha channel after nesting the adjustment layer under the mask layer. If that's not done, the adjustments seem to have no effect at all; so why wouldn't the program do it automatically? It seems like that step could be eliminated for the user. Or are there scenarios where the other channels could be also be used when the adjustment layer is the child of a mask layer?
prophet
Is this still the technique? I'm having trouble making it work. If I've moved the adjustment layer onto a mask, the program should assume my intent and I shouldn't have to take an extra step.

prophet
I see! Thanks. I was using Brightness/Contrast (as I sometimes did in Photoshop) to tweak the black/white levels of the mask, but it has no such Alpha choice. I guess I should stick to Levels. Shotster
That's odd. I just assumed that any adjustment which affects luminosity would work on a mask. 😕 Of course, curves (or even levels, as you indicated) will give you more control in that regard.
