Cannot edit image after placement

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So i  have just placed and image into a document using the place image tool. However now I am unable to modify the image or delete it from the page. Even when i select they layer and click delete nothing happens. It shows as a layer in the master page layer, but when selecting it has the cross marks that indicate that it is not editable.

The image is not on the master page itself.

This may be something I have done incorrectly but it feels like a bug. I appreciate that there is a learning curve to the software but at the moment it feels like I am battling the software every step of the way. This is a simplistic document and is taking forever. I am starting to feel like I would  have been better off using something like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Your image is on a Master Page and the purpose of Master Pages to keep an intact layout to be applied on several pages. But you can override this by clicking on "Master A" and hitting the "Detach" button. If your images should be not repeating I would place them on the "normal" pages.

Hi Joachim,

thanks for that unfortunately I don't think that is the problem as I said int the original post the image is not on the master pages, as seen in the screenshot below. The process I followed was to simply use the place image tool to place the image directly on the publication page page 2.

Strange, your screenshot of the Layers panel was telling something else.

The image has been "placed" or "dragged" into the master page layer structure on that page

It's not part of the original Master Page but it has inherited the inability to move it or delete it (which occurs with Master page items)

As advised by @Joachim_L you have to right click on that page's master page layer and select Edit Detached then drag the image to the top of the Layer stack then click the Finish button at the top of the screen

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Thanks @Joachim_L and @Carl123 that has done the trick and I can now successfully edit it. I am still a bit confused as to how it happened however, as all i did was just use the place tool on the page to drop on the image. I am 100% certain I did not drag the placed image into the master page layer.

One of those things I will see if it happens again.

Thanks for your help.
