Correct. That is something not (yet?) implemented.

I  had earlier posted request for Cross-referencing under a  different serif blog with an Video illustration of what exactly needs to be incorporated . here's the link for it. hope it clarifies some doubts on Cross-referencing trailing posts on this blog here.

please check it out and let me know .

Is there any option to cross-reference Figure (Table, photos) numbers in Publisher like InDesign?

I have more than 100 figures inside my thesis document but I have no option to cross reference the text (figure no) inside a paragraph to the actual figure number as illustrated in page no 4 & 6 of the attached sample document . Please see if there's a feature alternatively, I could use for this. Or any other way to do it in publisher?

The problem is shown in the video below..

Nothing has changed in this area in V2, from what you could do in V1. And we already discussed that in your earlier topic (which you linked to above).

I got V2, hoping that this issue was already implemented. I'm disappointed in seeing that this was not done yet, specially after so much "we're focusing in adding lots of new features to the new version, that's why V1 development has slowed down".

I am not sure the upgrade was worth it, to be honest.

I mostly got Publisher as an alternative to InDesign. Obviously, I did not expect to get all the bells and whistles at just a fraction of ID's price, but I didn't even consider the cross-reference function wouldn't be there. I mean, MS Word has it and it's just a word processor.

My use case are tabletop rulebooks, with lots of fonts, pictures, tables, and cross-references for its digital publication. Everything checks out except for the cross-references. So I'm currently doing a digital mock-up directly in MS Word that doesn't look too good, but where the hyperlinks actually work.

I'll do the print version in Affinity Publisher if I ever come around to it, but having to use a weird workaround for a basic feature defeats the point of having a specialised program.

I bought all three applications in version 1, but I was especially interested in Publisher.

I write music books for publication, and I was expecting to be able to use cross referencing the way I use it in InDesign.

I barely used the apps yet, for this very reason, and I see that cross referencing is still missing in version 2.

I'd be willing to take a license on all three apps again, if I knew it would be implemented soon.

Does anyone know if it is going to happen?

I cannot test the trial version due to the high system requirements.

Can anyone confirm, that real cross reference support is still missing?

I don't understand, how dwg/dxf support, obviously for technical documents, got included, but not real full cross reference support ... I have been so patient and now again disappointed. Not rewarded for the patience :-((

I can confirm no cross reference support in V2, much to my disappointment.

I’m starting to wonder if there is some fundamental problem with their underlying data model which makes this really difficult to implement for some reason. I hope that isn’t the case but… it’s frustrating when MS Word has had working cross references for two decades but a publishing program hasn’t.

They just added foot/end/sidenotes which is more complex to add than cross references. It's presumably just a matter of priorities vs. available resources. I wish they'd been added at the same time but I'm crossing my fingers it will be included in the next upgrade because it's at the top of my wish list.

Top of my wishlist by a long shot too. I’ve got a couple of small projects coming up, but I’m dreading my long project which comes after that. I hope I’m not in the hell of ‘see page XX’ and then manual fixing up at the last stage. I’ve grown reliant on computers doing that work reliably for me!

There is no fundamental problem with their data model. The reason why I say that is that there is a workaround that works, which is to set up anchors in the text, then reference the anchors. It works fine, so the program should be able to do it properly.

The problem is that this is a workaround.

Just off the top of my hat, it should be possible to include a "cross-reference" text style that would automatically create an anchor, not unlike the headings that are automatically referenced in the TOCs. That way, we could create the hyperlinks to those anchors when adding links, and would allow for customizing the text in the link (which MS word does not allow).

As for the page numbers when including references, that's just another text field we could insert, tied to the page number of the reference, same as we do with the TOCs or page numbers.

The system can do it properly, they just need to include the option. The fact that it's so frustrating is because it is a minor issue compared to the overall complexity of the program, and it has a lot of impact for all those who use it, so that small fix would make life incredibly easier and save us a lot of work when working with references/links. Yet they don't deliver that fix.

After purchasing V1 and V2, I'm starting to feel ignored. Specially because everytime we asked while in V1 the reply was "sorry, we're working to add all new features on V2". Yet here we are.

Hi,

set an anchor in a paragraph on page 55. Then write a text on page 7 "see details on page <anchor>". The placeholder shows "55", which is also a link. Then insert several pages before page 55. If the placeholder doesn't update the page number, there is NO workaround. This is just NO cross-reference.

Best, Michael

Isn't the field updated when you insert the additional pages, like in a TOC?

I just checked. How can I insert <anchor> that it ives the page number? I have only the possibility to set a hyper link.

You can make a Hyperlink to a Page. Unfortunately, it is to an absolute page number, which will not adjust as content is moved, and so does not work for cross-references in general.

So, if I understood correctly: You can reference anchors and create links to them.

However, if you insert a page number field, it is only created once and will not get automatically updated. That looks to me as the problem is in the page reference, not in the link per se.

Still, what a poor implementation of the links.
