Undeletable basic palettes = Wrong design decision

Recommended Posts

Not everything got better in the latest betas. In the 1.8.3x (and prior) versions I was able to delete at least the palettes for Grey, Colours and Gradients. In the latest beta(s) this became impossible. Just speaking for me (unfortunately): I don't need these palettes and I don't need the tons of Pantone colours. It was a good move to have default palettes defined for various colour spaces, BUT every time I create a new document I have to select my DEFAULT palette from the swatches pulldown again, because the selected palette at document start is something else. Or maybe I just simply do not understand the concept behind a DEFAULT. 🤐

EDIT: Interestingly I was able to delete the basic palettes (except Pantone) in the latest beta of ADesigner (but not in AP and APu).

Hopefully it's a bug - I ditched all those palettes as soon as it was possible to do so and replaced with CMYK and true greys plus have a standard application palette of globals for new documents - I know some users on windows were having problems deleting the standard palettes with the latest retail version, that was around a month ago, If i remember right, a moderator chipped in and said it would be fixed in an upcoming beta?

Apologies, maybe I was bit too harsh. You can delete the standard palettes (except Pantone) on Windows in the latest retail version, but not in the latest beta (Windows). Anyway, the Swatches panel needs a massive redesign: Being able to turn existing colours to spot and vice versa, replacing existing colours by other colours, deleting unused colours, turning an existing colour to overprint and vice versa, making a spot an alias of colour xy etc. pp. to name a few things.

Didn't you use a beta before and therefore use the same, previous preferences in the current beta?

I had deleted the default HSL and RGB grayscale palettes in an earlier app version and I still got the same customized appearance in the current beta. That also means, you possibly can copy-paste the according pref files from your 1.8.3 pref folder to your 1.8.4 beta pref folder to achieve the desired UI content.
