Install, uninstall and reuse Affinity with same license on another pc.

Recommended Posts

Hello there.

This might be a rather naive question but here is the point.

I have 5 licenses on 5 different computers.

> 5 Users use the Software 1 day or 2.

> Then the 5 computers are formatted and the data is cleaned

> 5 Other pcs are installed with the same software and licenses elsewhere in the company

> Then we redo the same process on and on

Is there going to be any license problems with this approach?

Thanks

From the Affinity Licence Agreement:

Your Rights and Permitted Use

  1. You are licensed to use the Serif Software as expressly set out in this Licence from your first use of the Serif Software until termination of this Licence.
  2. No rights in the Serif Software are sold to you; your right is solely to use the Serif Software within the terms of this Licence. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved to Serif.
  3. The Licence granted to you is limited, non-transferable and non-exclusive. Except to the extent any rights cannot be excluded by law, you are permitted:

    (i) if you are a private individual, to download, install, use and run for personal use, one (1) copy of the Serif Software directly on each computer running Microsoft Windows (“Windows Computer”) that you personally own or control. Commercial use is permitted but only use by you and not by any other users of any Windows Computers that you own or control. For example, other members of your household that use your Windows Computers may make personal use of the Serif Software whereas, if anyone other than yourself needs to make commercial use of the Serif Software, the other user will need to make a separate purchase.

(ii) if you are a commercial enterprise, to download, install, use and run one (1) copy of the Serif Software for use either: (a) by one specific individual on each of the Windows Computer(s) that they use that you own or control, or (b) by multiple individuals on a single shared Windows Computer that you own or control; For example, a single employee may use the Serif Software on both their desktop and laptop Windows Computer, or multiple employees may serially use the Serif Software on a single Windows Computer used as a shared resource.

(iii) if you are an educational institution, to download, install, use and run, one (1) copy of the Serif Software for use either: (a) by a single individual on each of the Windows Computer(s) that they use that you own or control, or (b) by multiple individuals on a single shared Windows Computer that you own or control. For example, a single student may use the Serif Software on both the student’s desktop Windows Computer and laptop Windows Computer, or multiple students may serially use the Serif Software on a single Windows Computer located at a resource centre or library.

  4. Except to the extent expressly allowed in this Licence:

    (a) you are not permitted to run, or allow to be run, the Serif Software over a network or any other means by which it can be used simultaneously on more than one computer; and

    (b) you have no right to rent, lend, lease, sell, supply, transfer or distribute, transfer, redistribute or sublicense the Serif Software

Its not really useful to copy paste the users license agreement from the affinity website. Iv'e red it also but i am still not 100% shure what this does mean in our particular case. In the end. We have only one user at a time which uses the license. And we are an educational institution.

In that case, you need information about Serif’s volume purchase programme for Educationdetective.gif

That is covered in the license for educational instutitions, in my opinion:

But if you aren't sure, it might be better for you to contact Serif directly. See https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/education/contact/

Sorry if I upset you by trying to help with the quote from the EULA - my crystal ball failed and I didn't realise you had already read it. Likewise, apologies for not realising that when you mentioned your "company" I didn't realise than you are an "educational institution".

As walt.farrell indicated, if you don't understand the EULA it is probably best to contact the Affinity Education team directly.
