"Adjustments" menu - Sort by alphabet

Recommended Posts

Hi @Son Nguyen, welcome to the forums!

Why not sort it by how recently a given filter was used instead, so that the most recently used filter is closest to the mouse pointer when the menu is opened, saving travel time for the pointer before reaching the option?

The most frequently used filters of a given user would then naturally be grouped together in an easier-to-reach place...

It would change frequency of recently filters. I don't think it's better but maybe you meant "sort by most used" I guess.

Sort by something. Group them. Ask an UX designer for help.

Yes, ask 10 of them and get 10 different answers.

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Rubbish. They ask customers. Or seek knowledge about usage patterns and workflows. Again observing and interviewing actual users and costumers. I work with such experts. Not with forum regulars.

We now have the worst solution we can possibly get: an unsorted list with no logic. And yet this is the kind of rubbish I get from the Internet experts when I suggest the program is developed with the assistance from people with expertise in user interfaces. Sigh.

It can only be improved. The only thing that is worse is if it disappears.

My advice to you:

Indeed.

Good UX designers also perform A-B testing on different user groups when they don't have conclusive data (the case @carl123 mentioned above).
They also use scientific methods like Eye Tracking and so on.

The worst case are self-appointed UX pseudospecialists and when coders/programmers attempt to create UX for their own apps (see Gimp or original Sodipodi for the best example).

Yup. They have an amazing toolbox for observing and analyzing. I have seen quite a few interface designs facing reality in labs - needing a major overhaul even though they were well prepared and approved by departments/customers with deep knowledge about their users.

That is why I always accept invitations to observe (from behind a on-way-window) user testing. I would be a drooling amateur if I didn't.

Same here.
I really love to watch what *real users* do. The test groups would be very suprirsed knowing how many people with laptops and cameras are watching them through one-way window during the testing.

And we do that even for simple packaging designs, poster and banner designs, corporate identity tests and even for custom font tests.

Exactly. Because if you are serious about anything - you need to know what impact a product/design has ... what impression it makes... you need to know if people understand it, accept it, use it... BUY IT!

And of course... the most interesting part is to know why some people do NOT use it or buy it. Much more interesting and rewarding than listening to the same 10 happy customers.
