nullpointer
I need to subtract an SVG shape from text. I've done the following with no success. Created my text then converted it to curves. Pasted my SVG on the text and selected it and the text. Attempted to do a "subtract" in the top menu bar with no success. Suggestions? Alfred
Go to the Layers panel and expand the layer tree to reveal how the shape is constructed. You’ll probably find that it comprises several nested layers or groups, in which case you’ll need to select only the layers containing the curves that you want to subtract: having selected them, Boolean ‘Add’ them to create a single Curves object that you can subtract from the text. nullpointer
I have what might be a stupid question but thought I would ask anyway. When I subtract an SVG from text that has been converted to curves all goes well, UNTIL, I do something like "flip the svg horizontally." In 100% of the cases it messes up the subtraction process to the point it is unusable. I'm thinking this an Affinity Designer malfunction and it's kind of a pain the butt. Any suggestions on a workaround or is this a "known" bug of Affinity Designer? Thanks!

nullpointer
Absolutely! The dragon image on the left is the original - the one on the right was flipped horizontally. Notice the items missing in the flipped image - tongue and teeth. I experimented doing this with multiple images and this type of error happened consistently. firstdefence
What about using a compound layer: Layer > Create compound this keeps things separate I think Alfred meant the actual file. firstdefence
Tip of the day: Get text to curves letters merged... select the text layer and then click Geometry: Add Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more...
