GIF-Export: Noise added

Recommended Posts

Preparing some icons for export I made the following observation: Exporting to GIF added some unwanted noise to a white background. Is this due to a resample option? I tried various resample options, since I cannot turn off resampling on export. See attached image. Left the layout from AD and right the exported GIF. Exporting to PNG does not add noise. How to prevent this? To clarify it: By noise I mean the colour artifacts you can see.

Hi Joachim_L,

What export settings are you using? Could you attach a screenshot of them along with the source AFDesign file you're exporting and the resulting GIF file please? Judging by the filtering on the gif screenshot it looks like you've got a very low resolution document that when exported to GIF is causing pixels to appear. Or are you specifically referring to what looks like streaks in the white areas?

I can't reproduce the stripes - but if you enhance the level of black on the output you see that the white background is dithered dramatically:

Thanks for the files, and also that screenshot Jowday - very useful to see the artifacts.

This does look very similar to a recent issue that was reported when using palettised PNG. As GIFs are also palettised I get the feeling it may well be the same. I've passed your feedback onto development.
