Hi I've been trawling these forums for the solutions but I dont know where to look.

Ive just switched over from photoshop to Affinity but still very much a newbie at this.

When I started off, it was all grand. But now when I open a recent document that I started off initially, and say I select the tools I require, its not doing anything. Someone mentioned about layers, and every time I edit the document its in current layer so I go to change it to current layer and below and tried using the clone tool. It works but not picking up on the spot I wanted cloned, just some strange lines. Dont know where they came from. For example if I try and select a black area by pressing alt (mac) and click it doesn't show black.

Ive also got these strange pixelated lines around the image which i didn't ask for. Ive tried rasterising but it didn't help.

Is there a process you have to do before you can edit a document? Could you provide a step by step (as I haven't the foggiest what's what) I tried placing the document as a new document but still comes back to the same issue. The erase tool works fine but not clone tool. I hope you get what im saying. Its mostly when im opening a document in affinity that I've already worked on previously.

Ill probably have more questions later :-)nThanks.

Welcome to the forum missy, is it possible to upload a “worked on” .afphoto file for us to take a look at we might be able to work out what's going on better if we can see first hand.

The Clone Brush Tool requires that you first select a cloning source (using the alt or option key) before it will do anything. If you have done that, you should see a small cross somewhere on the canvas that indicates the originating point for cloning.

If you see that cross & it still does nothing, make sure the options in the context toolbar are set appropriately & you are using a suitable brush.
