Martin_1
Hi all, I am currently following the tutorial "Affinity Publisher for beginners" on Affinity Revolution and it shows a search field when you click help in the menu (see attached image). Has this been removed?
Staff MEB Posted June 23, 2020 Staff Share Posted June 23, 2020 Hi Martin_1, Welcome to Affinity Forums It's available on macOS as it's provided by the OS itself, not on Windows. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Old Bruce
This may be a Mac OS feature. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4 Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Martin_1
Hi, How strange. I thought both versions (Mac and Windows) would be exactly the same. Bit of a shame because it looked like a handy option.

As MEB said, that Search is an OS function, not an application function. 17 minutes ago, Martin_1 said: Bit of a shame because it looked like a handy option. You can search within the Help on Windows, too. Just open the Help, and the Search bar is at the top: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.
Martin_1
Are you sure? I see her doing this (see screenshot): "You can search within the Help on Windows, too. Just open the Help, and the Search bar is at the top:" That is in the help file. That's not the same as she uses.

What she is using (the selected menu item automatically opening the menu that has it with an oversized animated tab pointing to that item) is a feature provided by the macOS. It is not provided by the Affinity (or any other) app. Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 Affinity Photo 1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.

It looks like that's a function provided by MacOS that helps you find items within the application UI. Windows doesn't provide a function like that. General Ripper
In recent times windows doesn’t provide anything at all, shit code endless problems, crashes, bugs with animations, falling processes. MacOs - looks modern and more licked, animations, standard functionality... Windows - A lot of unnecessary functionality, I don’t even know who to use, the old core, which had long had to say goodbye... Linux - Like this system, very cool core, very fast system. BUT for the average person, this is a shuttle and there is no single distribution... emmrecs01
Martin_1
Thanks for the replies folks! Bit of a shame it's not in Windows because it really looked handy.
