Photo: Convert image layer into work layer

Recommended Posts

With my old photo program I frequently duplicate the image layer, change the gradation, converted into grayscale and used that image layer as mask to apply certain manipulations.

In Affinity I can

- duplicate my image layer

- create a work layer

- make my adjustments and click on "combine"

But how can I convert that new image layer into the mask of a different work layer?

I want the adjustment to be applied according to the black level of my image layer.

I also don't find a way to convert an image layer into a mask for a different image layer. Yes, I can drag it onto the other image layer miniature, but this has no effect since only the transparency seems to be evaluated.

I probably miss something pretty obvious.

Does anybody know what? Thanks!

Thanks for the hint with "Rasterise To Mask."

When I put the created mask into a group with my work layer I get the tool I was looking for.

I can even apply a live-work layer to my mask, i.e. blur and change its parameters later.

In this context I miss a curve live adjustment layer which also can be applied to a mask. The regular curve layer does not seem to work with a mask, even when I group it. Curve adjustments I used a lot on masks.
