gumbo23
I need to write the title of a book along the spine and am stumped. If I hit rotate the whole document rotates. How do I get the box alone to rotate?
Geoff777
I think you have to select the text box with the "move tool" (top arrow in the left panel) and then top-centre the rotate "button" will present itself..... click and drag on that and it will rotate. For accuracy you can type in the figure (e.g. 90) in the "transform" panel, bottom right.
gumbo23
Thanks Geoff. I did spy the rotate box, and managed to get there. Still, I don't know why you can't select and object and more easily rotate it.
Geoff777
I'm still learning which tools do what in all the Affinity apps.... bit of a learning curve but will be worth it in the end 😁 Good luck with the book. jmwellborn

Still, I don't know why you can't select and object and more easily rotate it. In Photo: Transform studio panel: R (for Rotate) box. Right-click on the layer in the workspace, choose Rotate Left or Right. Additionally, in Designer or Publisher: Layer menu: Layer > Transform > Rotate Left or Right On the Toolbar, Rotate Clockwise or Counterclockwise: The capabilities are probably different because Serif doesn't expect photographers to be needing to rotate individual layers as often as designers or publishers would need to. Right-click then Transform > Rotate Left/Right rotates objects by 90º. (left/right seems to be Affinityspeak for anticlockwise/clockwise, sometimes) Also, Photo has Rotate 90º Clockwise/Anticlockwise in the Arrange menu, which affects objects. walt.farrell
GarryP
You can also rotate a layer by moving the mouse pointer near to (not directly over) one of the selected layer’s corner handles, until the pointer looks like a curved-double-headed-arrow, and dragging from there. You can also hold the right-hand mouse button down while you do that to rotate the layer from the opposite corner to the handle which is being dragged.gumbo23: How were you expecting to be able to rotate a layer “more easily”?
