Quick signage mock-up

Here's a quick mockup I did in Affinity Photo and Designer for a signage project. These guys build small, pre-fab homes using reclaimed materials. Really beautiful stuff. Anyway, I was commissioned to design a sign using their existing type mark which would be visible from the frontage road.

I shot the wooden sign and metal frame with my iPhone 5S, processed in Photo to straighten the perspective and lens distortions, color correct, etc, then sent it to Designer to add type, decided to work with lighting effects in Photo (which I then realized could edit within Designer — I LOVE this functionality). Anyway, it was such a fluid process I loved it!

I actually started doing the project in Illustrator out of habit; after I imported the photo and added the type with a drop shadow, Illustrator was just painfully slow. So I quit Illustrator, launched Affinity Designer and enjoyed the process 10X more with affinity's silky-smooth experience... those Adobe folks have been sitting on their laurels for too long.

Now, when can we get all Affinity apps as ONE comprehensive design environment with multiple-personas which the user purchases and activates as needed? I like the Send to Photo… and Send to Designer… options, but I'd rather switch personas and not apps. Plus that functionality is still buggy, often times it tells me it can't find the other app I'm trying to send the file to...

In any case, I'm falling more and more in love with Affinity apps each time I use them. Keep it coming guys!

Thanks Peter! It will actually be a flat box, metal framed but skinned with reclaimed wood planks. The letters will be water jet cut ~⅛" stainless or aluminum sheet with welded stand-offs to offset from the box. It will feature integrated LED lighting via solar panel and battery inside the truck.

Great work! Did you aim for the signage to be a printed billboard or metal on real wood?
