Publisher - Ignore Alpha when placing tiff images possible?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Sadly, there's no way to save a TIFF with multi pathes and multi alpha channels as we are use to do with PS, to select later the ones we want to use depending of the situation.

You can save a TIFF with different pathes and masks hidden, but you'll need later to open and modify the file depending of your need, since you can't access them in APub, for example, if the file is linked.

If it's for using in ID or QXP, that'll be the same. You'll have to open the file, active a mask, or use a path to clip the image, and save it again before importing or updating the file.

If I understand you correctly, there is no way to choose to use the alpha channel as a clipping mask or not.

That's a pity because I like to render images with alpha channel and decide later if I want to use them, or not.

This should definitely be a feature in a future update.

You can save Spare Channels and then load them into the Alpha channel.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.2
Affinity Designer 2.3.1 | Affinity Photo 2.3.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.3.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thanks!

I'm getting closer to the functionality I need, but not completely. In Affinity Photo I saved two Spare Channels: A white one (no mask) and the mask for to cut out the object if needed in a different  task. (It seems Publisher cannot do that)

So I can decide in Photo which one to load into Alpha. As the .afphoto file is linked in Publisher, this way I can decide whether to use the mask, or not. However, using this technique I still have to save a new file (.afphoto) and cannot use the original tif file which contains the only one alpha mask channel.

So still it would be better to have the option to use the alpha mask of the original tiff image as clipping mask or ignore it.
I'll suggest that in the wishlist.
