Document Setup: colour always changes from 'Assign' to 'Convert'

Recommended Posts

Dear Affinity service team,

If I try to choose 'Document Setup' > 'Colour' > 'Assign', it always changes back to 'Convert'.

This is very problematic, because I sometimes have to place PDF files with ICC-profils deviating from the ICC-profil of my Publisher document. In this case, the CMYK colour values will change. For example, a 100 % black will change into a combination of all four CMYK colours. This way, I cannot use my Publisher document for the print.

It would be very useful, if Publisher would ask me every time when I place a file if I want to assign or to convert the colours. It makes sense because every placed file has to be handled differently.

OS: Windows 7

I think that's because it is not a setting, which would affect things you do in the future (such as Placing images into the file). It is an immediate action, changing your document to the specified color value.

It does look like a conversion happens with Placed documents, since there can be only 1 document color space. And it might be a useful function to let the user influence whether the Placed document is Assigned to the new profile, or Converted. However, I don't think that will work successfully for anything except 100%K Black, as Assign will (I think) change the appearance of any other color.

But I think that's just a missing function, and then better expressed as a feature request, not a bug.

For now, I think you will need to make copies of those PDF documents before you Place them, and change their color profiles.
