LFrancis Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I’m just putting my toe in the welcoming waters of Affinity Suite: I’ve imported an IDML file and saves as a Publisher file. The original Indesign file has an image inside an irregular cropping frame, all of which show up fine in Publisher. So far so good. My query: I need to replace the image of the waving volunteer with an updated version inside the frame. The black-stroked irregular frame needs to stay, to show as a cutting out guide. How do I achieve this? Oh, and how do I turn off those orange and green coloured text frames? I've checked they haven't got a stroke colour in the Publisher tools Thankyou in advance for any tips Quote
firstdefence Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Select the move tool (v) From the layers panel you should see the image as a child layer of the irregular shape if you click on the image layer, on the workspace area, just above the workspace will be a context menu and it should say Replace Image. re the orange and green you may have highlighting turned on Quote iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... LFrancis Posted June 12, 2020 Author Posted June 12, 2020 Ah! Nearly there. Thankyou firstdefence. I've got the updated image in place. I now have a box with an X around the image (see screenshot). Highlighting isn't turned on so that's not what's causing the orange and green boxes around the text. Any other ideas for getting rid of them and the X? Quote

Does the image layer's thumbnail show a square with an X in its lower right bottom? When you click the picture frame do you get the scale slider below? Can you show a screenshot of the selected picture frame together with your layers panel showing the unfolded picture layer? The text box colors look like strokes assigned to this text frames. LFrancis Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Hello Thomaso - thanks for your input. Sorry for late reply - lots on at the mo! WELL... I have inadvertently stumbled on the answers to both of my queries 1. Those orange and green boxes around the text blocks: I know they hadn't been assigned a stroke colour so I was still a bit stumped. Then in a moment of curiosity I hovered my cursor over that windscreen wiper thingy in the top menu bar (screenshot attached) and discovered it was 'toggle preview mode'. Which is what I did - and all those coloured outlines on the text blocks disappeared! 2. Those X's across the images: Same thing happened So now I know where the Preview Mode is in Publisher I still need to look into linked and embedded images (mine are usually linked - from Indesign days - to keep the file size down) and exporting to PDF but that's for another post (or tutorial) Thankyou again, First Defence and Thomaso for your suggestions. Am enjoying learning the ways of Publisher v Indesign! Quote
thomaso Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 @LFrancis thank you for your feedback. It is good to hear that Preview Mode hides unwanted occurrences for you on screen. But it still remains unclear what causes your text frame colors (still have no idea) and also what causes the X if an image is placed inside the picture frame. This X usually disappears as soon the frame gets a file, therefore I assume something went wrong. Would you mind to post a screenshot of your layer panel with the unfolded picture frame please? In this screenshot you see an empty (blue), a correct (green) and an incorrect used (pink) picture frame. The correct use offers additional helpful features for transforming of frame and content (e.g. scaling or rotating inside the frame), whereas the pink version doesn't offer these. It was created via the Layers Panel by moving the image layer on the Picture Frame layer. It may be nice to have this option (e.g. for placing more than 1 items inside) but usually you want to make use of the Picture Frame features, which get limited with such a workflow.
