Dmacb Posted June 8, 2020 Posted June 8, 2020 Help! I started using Affinity, (Hold on to your hats) about 10 years ago! Due to health conditions i.e. stroke, I have forgotten a lot. I'm ready to go back at it now, but I not using my MacBook pro...it has its own issues! I'm using my brother's iMac desktop. I don't seem to recall what is the best way to download or transfer the app to his computer. At this point, should I even try!? Please help! My creative design skills are bursting out of the stroke Quote
thomaso Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Might it be that 10 years ago you even got a few floppy disks when purchasing your Affinity software from your local dealer? In that case this one might touch your soul: Another option might be to login at your Apple AppStore or Serif store account and download the installer file again. In case you have downloaded it to your macbook then you might want to burn the installer file on a CD-ROM and transfer it this way to the iMac. GarryP Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Welcome to the forums. Make sure that you won’t break the license agreement https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/licence/ (Windows version, couldn't find Mac version) before you try to install the software on another machine: Quote: “As a private individual, you can download, install, use and run for personal use, one copy of the Serif Software directly on each computer running either (depending on your purchased license) Microsoft Windows (“Windows Computer”) or macOS (“Mac Computer”) that you personally own or control.” Quote: “(i) if you are a private individual, to download, install, use and run for personal use, one (1) copy of the Serif Software directly on each computer running Microsoft Windows (“Windows Computer”) that you personally own or control. Commercial use is permitted but only use by you and not by any other users of any Windows Computers that you own or control. For example, other members of your household that use your Windows Computers may make personal use of the Serif Software whereas, if anyone other than yourself needs to make commercial use of the Serif Software, the other user will need to make a separate purchase.” (I'm assuming that this relates to Macs too.) I don’t know if you will be okay in your particular case but it’s worth making sure before you try installing anything on a machine that you don’t own or control (whatever 'control' means), just in case. Basically, what "own or control" means in this context is you declare that you are the individual in control of the software you are installing on the machine & therefore agree to be held legally responsible if it is used in any way by anyone that violates that software's licensing terms. Of course, as with anything else that has legal implications, it is best to consult with an attorney if there are any questions about that. That said, I doubt that installing the Affinity software on a relative's iMac typically would meet the "own or control" criteria. This explicit emphasized info makes me wonder whether you actually purchased Affinity software or earlier software done by Serif (the first Affinity app becomes 6 years old in 2020). In this case the questions about legal conditions are redundant because Serif's legacy software (e.g. the "...plus" series) doesn't exist for Mac but Windows only while the current Serif software ("Affinity") requires another purchase to get an installer for a different platform (win > mac). emmrecs01 1 Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
