AT.HA Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 Hi, I will buy a NAS unit Synology DS918+. Can I use this unit and edit/save directly from the unit plug-in to my router (for now High Sierra), in real time without problems using my 3 Affinity programs? Any know problem with this NAS unit and Affinity apps? Thank you very much for all your help. Best regards. Quote
Aammppaa Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I don't see why it wouldn't work. But performance across the network will surely be slower than a local HD or SSD. Also, you may get into trouble if connection to the NAS is lost as Affinity will no longer have access to the file. I am not sure how gracefully Affinity handles that situation. --- Update… There is a fair amount of discussion on the forum about cloud/network storage. Internally, they generally use their own file system & by some method convert that on-the-fly to a 'native' Mac one as the file's contents are accessed. Since the Affinity apps do not necessarily load all of a document's file's contents at once into the application space & serialize changes to it at the end of the file, it may not work as expected. If it was me, before purchasing the NAS I would contact Synology directly & ask if there are any known issues when used with the Affinity apps.
