appearsharmless
If I'm understanding correctly (and I may not be) the only pure vector brushes in Affinity Designer 1.8.3 are the first two brushes in the "Pens" category. I downloaded the brushes from 1.6 and loaded them into AD, and none of the Basic brushes have an image in the bottom window (where you can set the head/tail offset). I think this means the brush is pure vector, not a vector line with a raster image stretched along it... is that correct? Is there any reason I shouldn't use these brushes? (I can't figure out why they were left out of the 1.8x release) Quote iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)| MacOS (Probably latest stable build) Affinity Designer|Affinity Photo|Affinity Publisher
firstdefence
Those brushes are “basically” simple shapes, you can edit the “taper" via the brushes size variance setting and also from the stroke panels pressure setting, it can be a bit hit and miss as to whether it works. The brushes are really set up for stylus drawing but I can only talk from my perspective and I’m not a programmer so I don’t understand the complexities but as an end user I find the affinity brushes to be a bit clunky at the moment, I’m sure they will be refined but it can be hard going over other apps such as Krita, media bang and the like. appearsharmless
Thanks, firstdefence. I, too, noticed they were pretty clunky to use... maybe that's why they weren't included in the 1.8 release? Let me add to my original post (which I made before I had my morning coffee, and it shows): Are the "Basic" category brushes from the AD 1.6 release pure vector? (i.e., will the strokes scale infinitely with no jaggies?)
