Large volume image import and master page control

Recommended Posts

Dear all.

I need to place approx 1750 images (photographs), 1 per page and control them all via a master page. Is this possible without having to individually place and resize every single one?

I will be needing to do this fairly frequently so am hoping Publisher can do this, rather than using InDesign. Then I can edit text, contents, cover pages etc  as required, but it means I can output a book as a PDF or for print pretty efficiently.

Thanks in advance for you advice.

Ian

Hi and welcome to the forums

There are a number of basic sizing options for placing photos into frames.

if you have a variety of landscape and portrait and Square format images then there is no way one option will work for all the images. The option you choose will be the option for all the frames from the Master Page but you can then override the ones that don't 'fit' right.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thank you. Fitting now understood, but how do I import all of them at the same time?

For 1750 images, I wouldn't. I would gather them and organize by some criteria into folders and then go to File > Place ... and choose the 12 - 50 (never tried that many at once). There will be a weird looking cursor and a bunch of thumbnails in a new sidebar. Click in the picture frame and the picture is placed click in the next and the next is placed....

There is no way to automatically add 100s of images sequentially.

OK, Thanks. I was hoping that I was not going to need to do that.

I am not the only one looking for this functionality as there is a ton of stuff re indesign on the same subject. I did manage to do it using a script, but the result was not ideal.

If Affinity want to attract some market share of photobook makers, then templates for one click books would be really good. Lightroom, photos etc facilitate this but fall down on the publishing tool power and inability to make larger PDF docs for instance. Not looked at the Affinity photo programme.

Affinity seems more friendly, and armed with the info you have given me, I will start clicking. 😀

Thanks again for your help.
