Starhand
I'm not only a newbie to the Affinity programs but to anything using them. I have not prior experience with any other systems either. I'm talking baby steps here. The tutorials I've been viewing so far begin beyond my need. Are there tutorials that really start from scratch? Help learning absolute basics please. slow and steady. carl123
Which app are you using and what is your main use of it going to be or put another way what specifically would you want to learn how to do as a starting point? Starhand
I think publisher would be start #1. My 1st goal with it would to build several pages that include a couple of photos per page with a text box, as a page in a step by step document to how a project is made. A title page of course, perhaps arrows pointing to certain details in the photos. I would need to copy and insert my own photos to these boxes, so crop to size I guess. Another task I'd like to learn is to merge a trimmed to size photo over, or layered on top of another background photo. i have all three Affinity programs, but I don't feel ready or have a need to dive deeply into manipulating images yet. does that provide some, enough added information to for you have a starting point? jT
carl123
Here are 3 Publisher videos to get you started The last one deals with Master Pages which are useful if the layout/positioning of text and photos on a page is to remain consistent between pages but Master Pages can be a bit daunting so a lot of people don't need or use them for simple projects https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFqKijjI4qc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py6fqmvlaqY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yls6R3YyPQ This next link contains all the Affinity Publisher videos which are useful if you want to do something specific in Publisher not covered above https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/tutorials/publisher/desktop/ jmwellborn 1 Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. markw
Just a little friendly forum admin point here, it’s probably better that you don’t use your email address as your forum name. You can change it under your ’Account Settings’, found top right corner of a page when you are signed in. Have fun learning the Affinity software and always feel free to ask any questions, there’s always people here willing to help😎 jmwellborn 1 Quote macOS 10.15.7 | 15" Macbook Pro, 2017 | 4 Core i7 3.1GHz CPU | Radeon Pro 555 2GB GPU + Integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 1.536GB | 16GB RAM | Wacom Intuos4 M
jmwellborn
@carl123 excellent suggestions, but since Judy may have the latest version of Publisher she will notice that some things seem to be different when she watches Olivio’s video — which is also first rate. She will see a Publisher v. 1.7.3. Interface. Her interface will be much more sophisticated with the upgrades — i.e. New Document now includes templates, etc. Don’t want her to become discouraged at the start!! Starhand
thank you folks for all of it. I'll begin looking again. And for the name setting, changed it. I'm sure I'll be back many times. I do want to learn. jT jmwellborn and markw
