Color palette from image issue

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm trying to create a color palette from an image in Affinity Designer on Mac 10.11. Selecting "Document" as target the software quit. I can select current palette but I don't see new colors. How to share and use the new palette?

In Affinity Photo I don't find the same tool, is it not available?

Thanks

I don't know why choosing to create a Document palette would cause the app to quit -- that isn't normal. But if you want to create a palette you can use in other documents, create it as either an Application palette (so it will be available in any AD document), or on Macs only as a System palette (so it will be available in any app that can use system level palettes).

Both Designer & Photo have a "Swatches" panel. If you do not see it in AP, try enabling it from the View > Studio menu fly out.

I've tried with 12 and don't experience the quitting you describe. What OS are you on?

Hi, it works only with default color number (5). If I set a higher number (12 for example) the app quit every time.

I see the same options in both Photo and Designer, I go from the Swatches panel and use the four line hamburger menu and choose Create Palette from Image.... From what sort of file are you trying to create a palette. I only checked with a .png file. I can set any sort of number for the colours.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Sorry, i had missed that you already indicated MacOS 10.11.

In the meantime, i've created pallets from both .png and .jpeg files without any issue. Could it be 10.11 related?

Since you mentioned 5 as a default, I assume you were using the "Create Palette From Image..." option in the Swatches panel, right?

If so, it is possible the app crashed because there was something wrong with the file you selected to create the palette from, but that is just a guess.

  • 2 months later...

Talking about palette from image - great option to have, but please Affinity team, give the option to choose regions  from which we could create palettes. Today I had image that was mainly blue but had purple accent. Creator picked up that purple accent after adding 12 shades of blue... I sure can create that palette manually but thats not the point of automatic creation ;) Other then that I do appreciate the option. Great thing to have.
