jeffreydevey
When using a finger, tapping the Document and Edit menu buttons at the top of the workspace opens the menus, and tapping them again closes the menus. When using the Apple Pencil, however, tapping once opens the menus, but tapping again hides the UI.
DM1
This may be by design. If you tap outside of the menu it closes without hiding ui. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). jeffreydevey
I thought it was odd that the behavior of tapping the menu buttons with the Apple Pencil would be different than when using a finger. I would consider tapping the button to open the menu, and again to close the menu to be the expected behavior, while hiding the UI is unexpected and unwanted when there's already a dedicated button for that. SPaceBar
Hi @jeffreydevey Sorry for the delay in replying. I was unable to recreate this by just tapping as described. Do you know if you had the flyout open when this happened?

The first cycle of opening and closing the menus shows the behavior using the Apple Pencil, and the second cycle shows the behavior using my finger. In all instances I tapped once on each menu button to open it, then once again to close it. RPReplay_Final1591117007.MP4

A blue circle will appear on screen where you touch. IMG_4189.MP4 jeffreydevey 1 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). jeffreydevey
Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of that setting.
SPaceBar
Thanks for the screen recordings both of you, and the tip @DM1 - I should have mentioned that. I'm not seeing this on my iPad Pro 2020 model but my colleagues have found it on previous models. I am going to log the issue but out of interest @jeffreydevey what iPad model are you using? You can work around it by changing your settings - Preferences > Interface > Automatically Hide UI > Toggle it to off. jeffreydevey
jeffreydevey
@SPaceBar I'm using the first generation iPad Pro. Thanks for the workaround suggestion. SPaceBar
mediumcheese
This happens on my second gen ipad pro. Tapping on the edit menu to close it goes into fullscreen mode. I can close it by tapping outside of the menu, but that actually makes a mark with whatever brush im using.
