Closing the Document and Edit menus with Apple Pencil hides the UI

Recommended Posts

This may be by design. If you tap outside of the menu it closes without hiding ui.

I thought it was odd that the behavior of tapping the menu buttons with the Apple Pencil would be different than when using a finger. I would consider tapping the button to open the menu, and again to close the menu to be the expected behavior, while hiding the UI is unexpected and unwanted when there's already a dedicated button for that.

Hi @jeffreydevey

Sorry for the delay in replying. I was unable to recreate this by just tapping as described. Do you know if you had the flyout open when this happened?

I've attached a screen recording of the issue here. The first cycle of opening and closing the menus shows the behavior using the Apple Pencil, and the second cycle shows the behavior using my finger. In all instances I tapped once on each menu button to open it, then once again to close it.

It helps to turn in Show Touches in Affinity setting. A blue circle will appear on screen where you touch.

Thanks for the screen recordings both of you, and the tip @DM1 - I should have mentioned that.

I'm not seeing this on my iPad Pro 2020 model but my colleagues have found it on previous models. I am going to log the issue but out of interest @jeffreydevey what iPad model are you using?

You can work around it by changing your settings - Preferences > InterfaceAutomatically Hide UI > Toggle it to off.
