Layer, Duplicate, Rotate, Duplicate the Copy - Transform is not duplicated, just copied

Recommended Posts

According to the manual the transformation (such as rotation) should be applied cumulative when the duplicated layer is again duplicated.

For some reason this does not happen so the nice example from the help cannot be reproduced.

It seems that the non-transformed layer is duplicated and the transformation is applied afterwards.

I think it was expected that the layer is duplicated with the transformation being already applied and the transformation is then applied to the duplicated layer.

Hi Julian23,

This seems to be working fine here. How are you duplicating the layer?

If you select a layer, press ⌘ (cmd) + J (to duplicate), rotate it and then press ⌘ (cmd) + J again it should duplicate and apply the rotate transform consecutively.

Isn't this working for you?

Dear Mods!

I have the same problem - I have followed your instructions and also (https://affinity.help/photo/de.lproj/index.html?page=pages/LayerOperations/duplicate.html?title=Duplizieren and https://affinity.help/designer/de.lproj/index.html?page=pages/ObjectControl/duplicate.html?title=Duplizieren%20von%20Objekten) but it's not working. It only copies the layer as Julian23 mentioned but it doesn't apply the rotation.

My method:

  • I have an object and clicked the point-transform-tool and changed the transform origin point
  • I have duplicated the layer (Ctrl + J) and rotated my object (the point-transform-tool is still active)
  • I have duplicated the layer again (Ctrl + J)
  • The object is only copied, but the cumulative rotation didn't apply

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

If you're still having this problem I think you should create your own topic, rather than tagging onto this old topic that no one is paying attention to any more.
