Matt James Posted May 18, 2020 Share Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Complete and utter novice here to both Affinity and graphic design in general, so apologies if this is really easy! I've attached an image. I'm trying to create a vector logo for my company which includes the top shape, and want the effect of the 'slash' through it. At the moment, I'm only achieving this by putting a white line through it, which as you'll see in the middle image doesn't work when I then try to save it as a vector. I tried creating the lines myself using the 'pen' tool, but the ends of the line are flat which means I lose the effect of it being a slash. Can anyone tell me how I could do this? Note: When you use the Subtract function, keep ALT pressed down so you get a compound layer which is easily modifiable. Staff MEB Posted May 18, 2020 Staff Share Posted May 18, 2020 Hi Ger.Markus, We don't support boolean operations between lines and shapes, only between shapes (lines will be closed connecting the start and end points). If you convert the line to curves going to menu Layer > Expand Stroke it will then work as you'd expect. Even if I execute "expand stroke" on both objects, this does not lead to the desired result. I have made a video of it. Unfortunately, my screen recorder doesn't seem to include the menus, but I can assure you that I executed "expand strokes" in both cases ("Kurven erweitern" in the german version). The workflow looks exactly the same as in GarryP and both times the rectangle tool was used, so I don't understand why one of the objects are not converted to curves. Staff MEB Posted May 18, 2020 Staff Share Posted May 18, 2020 Make sure you are pressing ALT while you click the subtract button when performing the subtract operation to create a compound (non-destructive boolean operation) which you can expand in the Layers panel to access the original objects.
